I am writing you from Port Elizabeth South Africa. I just landed after a long couple of flights (the longest being 15 hours from jfk to Joburg) and I have finally had a hot shower. Its so good to be back in the southern hemisphere again I cant even explain it. Of course, in my haste I forgot my camera (and sunglasses lol) but that's okay because even though my phone doesn't work for communication, I can still take photos.
Its an intense environment here which I feel right at home in and as soon as I can I will certainly post some shots.
Much love to my family here for letting me get online and also feeding me and much love for my friends back home that are concerned for my safety.

More from me soon, in the meanwhile I hope you are all safe and warm there in the winter time while `I soak up a second summer under the southern cross. +)
I dont usually do that but I hope you enjoy all the same:

THOUGHTS ON GRAVITY AND PARTICAL DISPERSMENT

(4:00 PM 08-21-11 BROOKLYN)

Planets are set on their side by means of unimaginable impacts back in time.

The sky is full of mystery which we exist for and dwell upon.

And here in our oasis we live, love, kill and die. Pushing ever towards our mystifying

destiny.

And in that paradise we step with our misguided graces. As people we move so fast.

The Cosmos is rich and full of particles which run on their own rules. They move through us

always, even now as you read.

We are of particle dispersment through the ages.

Gravity helps in this process over the envelope of time.

It is a folded envelope with particles from the beginning of these exquisite dramas.

From macroscopic to microscopic we flow in spite of ourselves in this expansive and

ironically constrictive eddy.

In this burbling river of time and coincidences we wander.

Enjoy your convex nature until you burst.

Apparently it had been torched earlier that afternoon.
closup:

The funniest and I mean funniest thing ever (I know that pretty mean of me) is that the poor thing got a parking ticket after the fact. It was seven pm and I hadnt laughed all day, but that made me laugh out loud.
Ohhh Brooklyn, gotta love it. Life in the hood is never dull. This was no accidental engine fire, this thing was torched on purpose. The ground was still wet around it from the firemen when I happened upon the scene.
Please look forward to more of these as the patterns in the decaying concrete and asphalt provide me with a large pool of source material.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173370985259086454noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-949006293569527467.post-11295005689353949072012-06-24T17:55:00.000-07:002012-06-24T17:57:26.421-07:00staring up at trees # d

This is a study of a bouquet of flowers for a family portrait for which I have been commissioned. I am looking forward to sharing the final painting when it has reached its 'completion'. The painting itself has been rather challenging as I think this small study well illustrates in its complexity. This is of course the skeletal view of what will be a flourishing and probably rather overlooked portion in the final work.
If this element survives through to the end however, it will be a subtle and crucial aspect to the whole of the painting. The bouquet might help expand the story of the painting and its characters as well as guide your eye.

I am pleased to give props to Hyancarlo Monroy for his help with my projects. Hyancarlo is a talented young designer here in NYC that is working with me on a big project due for completion in the mid summer of 2012. If any of you need a talented designer email me and we will make the contacts.
After a long day he went home and scanned this out of my sketchbook which I gave him and he emailed it to me because I am still without a scanner (see post below 'update' for explanation of the dead equipment).

Its very important to stand by your work and those you believe in.

I hope you are all well, and happy; or at least striving to be so out there in these challenging times.

Until next time, much love

I just wanted to give you all a brief explanation of why my blog and website have been a bit neglected this past year or so.
Well, as some of you may know, on December 1st 2010 I was hit by a car. I wont go into details but as a result of this accident I have been living in chronic pain. This has made my secular work as well as my painting work very difficult for me to maintain on even a "barely getting by" level. Anyway, gone are the days when I could work my job for ten hours then come home and paint for seven hours six days a week.
I also endured in that same year a personal loss that left me a hollow wreck of a man and frankly it was all I could do to keep my self from giving up on living. Between my physical pain and my emotional desolation I have had a very difficult climb to the point where I can even entertain the idea of painting. I don't expect anyone to fully understand and I'm certainly not asking for advice, this is just a letter to all of you to explain my absence.
At any rate, I am going to try and focus on some smaller works on paper in order to try and get my zest for life and work back. The smaller scale is possible with my physical injuries unlike the larger oil paintings I used to do. But don't worry, I will still be doing larger oils, just much much more slowly.
I did two smaller pieces today which I was very excited to scan and post. But, the universe being what it is, my scanner is terminally broken after my little hiatus so I have had to resort to second rate snap shots. Haha, its funny how when you try and lift your head from the mud and muck and broken glass and gravel and do something worthwhile it is stopped at the gate.

Anyway I will repost these two little paintings at a later date when I have properly documented them. I just felt compelled to post a little update for those of you that may be interested as to my status of late.
As always: Much love, I hope you are well out there and do stay in touch.
